We have two computers with Windows 2000 Professional and one with Windows 98.
These were networked. We then purchased a new (fourth) computer with
Windows XP Professional. The XP networking wizard will not run on Windows
2000 and I cannot network the system any more. When I click on Network
Neighborhood on the 2000 system, I can see the name of the new computer but I
cannot map a network drive.

I can't even see the other computers from the new XP one. But - we have one
internet connection that we share and the other computers are able to get
online through the router.

Any suggestions? I can't even find a Microsoft article about upgrading the
Windows 2000 computers to Windows XP. Is that possible?

Thank you!

You already have an existing working network with the win2000 pro and win98
machines. Do not run the XP network wizard on those machines. You are just
adding xp to the "existing" network, not making an entirely new network.

It's possible to upgrade the Windows 2000 Professional computers to
Windows XP Professional, but there's no need to. All versions of
Windows can network with each other.

Don't run XP's Network Setup Wizard on any of the older computers.
They're already set up for networking. Configure XP's network
settings to be compatible with the existing computers. I've written a
web page that should help:

Hi,

If you r following the workgroup environment then check out for the commong
workgroup name in all the system. Also check for the same protocols &
services used in all the systems, coz if it varies then u can't see the
systems in n/wnbhd but can access the system from win->run.

Check out for that............ .
