Many other Comcast subscribers have reported the same problem & errors
today.

The error suggests that the problem may be on Comcast's end (Server
Response: '-ERR internal server error').

That being said...

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, it may be causing the problem, and even Symantec says
it's not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email

If still no joy, access the account via webmail (i.e., SmartZone) until
Comcast addresses the problem.

That's a very strange error message, one that I have not seen before.
I think there is server trouble, call Comcast tech support

Jess79, we can't tell if your issue is the same or different without seeing the error
message. When you get that prompt for username/password, click Cancel.
Then right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not fully compatible
with Windows Mail.

Well firstly, start a new thread, as this is a different problem to the
posts you have piggy-backed onto.
You need to be aware that this is NOT a chat room, it's a news group, and
operates on one thread per problem.

You switched from AVG to Norton? That's like jumping from the frying
pan into the fire...
Norton security products are among the top three troublemakers
for Windows Mail. First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the
reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Disabling the Norton program is often insufficient. Do a trial uninstall,
followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail
