Here is the deal. My cousin, just for the heck of it, added a password to his
administrator account. He is the only administrator and now cannont log in
since he does not know what he put for his password. I cannot help him, so I
have come to the l33t. (I'm n00b, sorta.) Help me help him.

If we are *not* talking about the built-in Administrator account but
rather to your cousin's account which has administrative privileges:

A. XP Home Edition
1. He should start the machine in Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8
key as the computer is starting up. This will get him to the menu to
choose Safe Mode. He will use the Up arrow key to navigate since his
mouse will not work there.

2. In Safe Mode the normally hidden Administrator account will be
visible. Unless he changed that password, the default is a blank. He
should log in with that account and go to the User Accounts applet in
Control Panel. There he can change his personal user account's password
to something he will remember.

B. XP Pro Edition - At the Welcome Screen, have him do Ctrl-Alt-Del
twice which will get him the classic Windows logon box. He can then
type in "Administrator". If he didn't change the password, it will be a
blank.

C. If he changed the built-in Administrator password on either Home or
Pro, he can use NTpasswd to change the Administrator password to a
blank. Then go to the User Accounts applet, etc.
