I just reinstalled xp pro and I was suprised when I logged on that I
was greeted with the message "the specified domain either does not
exist or could not be contacted" even though my computer is not on a
domain, is not a domain controller and does not have any passwords...
when I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL there was no option to set the computer name. I
even tried the "shift+f10" hole to access the control panel settings
while installing windows and setting the computer to not query me for a
password when starting up. Please help.

How did you reinstall? If you did a clean install, this would be a
surprising message indeed. What were you trying to do when you reinstalled?
More info might help us help you.

I reintalled by booting from my xp cd, reformating the partition and
doing a fresh install...
I'm not sure what you mean by "what were you trying to do when you
reinstalled".
What other information might be of use?
I'm installing with a corporate license...

Also after I installed the first time the computer restarted I got a
STOP error telling me that windows detected a problem and shut down as
to not cause damage. I ran microsoft's memory checking program and it
didn't find anything wrong there
