We were having a lot of spyware all of a sudden yesterday so we decided to
restore the computer back to Saturday because the spyware remover we used
didn't seem to work. Once we rebooted the computer we keep getting the
message the the root Windows\System32\hal.dll file is missing or corrupt. We
hit F8, but every option we select brings us back to the same screen. We
tried inserting the XP disk and nothing happens even when we restart. I don't
know if it matters that we are using the XP and not the XP professional disk
(which is what is on the computer .... we had one computer with xp and one
with xp professional and we seem to have misplaced the xp professional disk).
I am trying desperately not to lose my files. Please help if you can, I am
stressing out over here.
