cannot install uph clean

cuppajava

I tried to reinstall uph clean on my Dell 4700 c , Windows xp pro.
A dialogue box appeared that said the uph clean msi is missing. The source
cant be found. I downloaded directly from the Microsoft site so does this
mean that the download itself is defective or is this file hidden somewhere.
I ran a search for the file ' UPH Clean Setup(1).msi but it doesn't seem to
be anywhere on my system.

Hello,

If this is the User Profile Hive fix the file is:
UPHClean-Setup.msi
It should run by double-clicking on it.

Delete any previous downloads and try downloading again.
If it's installed properly it will show in your startup routine:
Start => Run => "msconfig" {without the quotes}
It will be listed under the Services tab as 'User Profile Hive
Cleanup'.

Thanks for the reply, Claymore.

The problem is that I keep getting the message that the file is "missing."
"Source file UPH Clean-startup.msi, is could not be found on the system."
Where could it be?

Sorry - when exactly do you get this message? When installing, or at
some other time?

Ok. the message appears when attemting to install.
Apparently the application downloads ok. At first I just clicked " run" and
the program downloaded automatically. After clicking ok or yes for " do you
want to install," is when the message pops and everything stops.
I went to add/remove programs to try to uninstall and I get the message.
I downloaded on copy right to the desktop. It is there alright but when I
click to install, a message titled: "Windows Installer" appears. The message
is:"The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that
the source exists and that you can access it."

It downloads automatically to C:/ Program Files/ UPH/.
You can manually download to anywhere however. The deskto for instance.

If you do a search on UPH is it found? If yes, what happens if you double
click on UPH?

Hello,
When I double click on the uph installer icon, I am prompted to click 'run'.
When I click run, a windows installer message appears saying that "the
feature you are trying to use is on a resource that is unavailable."
It then says to "try and find an alternate path to the folder containing UPH
Clean-Setup[1].msi" on my C drive.
When I click 'ok', windows installer says the path 'C:\...UPH
Clean-Setup[1].msi' cannot be found.
The final windows installer message says "The installation source for this
product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can
access it."
This is as far as I get in the installation process.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your interest.

Try using the Windows Install Cleanup utility to remove the entry if present
for UPH Clean before attempting installation again.

Be sure to remove only the entry for UPH Clean if present and leave all
others alone.

What language version are you downloading? The downloaded file I tried is
'UPHClean-setup.msi'
Note: there is no{1} after setup.

Hey way to go Allan.

The Windows Install Cleanup utility did the trick. I knew that it was
important to completely uninstall an application before reinstalling, but I
noticed that this one still appeared in the add/remove programs even though I
had tried to manually delete all traces. I never would have thought of using
the Windows Install Cleanup utility however without your input.

Thanks again

I think it's the same version, english. For a solution see Allan's reply -
the one previous to your last.
