I had a LAN with bios on IPX. Today I decided to remove IPX and use TCP/IP
for compatibility reason.

It didn't work at first, so I uninstall the microsoft client from the
"ethernet properties". Then attempted to add back the cilent. However, it
says cannot find a driver to install client. Although I have the windowsXP
install CD, there are many .inf files on it and I don't know which inf file
to point it to to install the microsoft network client.

Any ideas?

Peter,

Generally, when you're doing an install, the install process will know what
specific file it's looking for. If you navigate into the proper folder, where
the file can be found, you look in the folder contents windows in the wizard,
for a file with matching file name. When the desired file shows in the contents
window, then you're in the right folder.

For most installs, you just need to look in the I386 folder, wherever that is on
the install CD.

If the file you need is NOT in I386, then you may have another problem. Just
let us know, and we'll try to help you with it. Patience and persistence.

I got around the problem by running the network setup wizard. It puts back
microsoft windows client; I don't even need to use the install CD.
