Cannot insert a picture into Word 2007

It's a wierd anomaly but I cannot insert a picture (jpeg, bmp, etc) into Word
2007. When I try, only the botton sliver of the picture appears. When I
resize the picture, the image temporarily appears in a muted but complete
form during the resize but immediately reverts to a sliver after the resize.

The really wierd part is that I can insert a picture just fine into the
header or footer of a document!!!
I can also insert pictures into the body of Publsher, One-Note, etc
My son-in-law the computer wizzard tried but could not find a solution
Any Ideas?

Sounds like your line spacing is set to Exactly something instead of
Single or Auto or At Least. In Word 2007, select the paragraph
containing the picture, click on the Page Layout tab, click on the
little arrow at the bottom right corner of the Paragraph group on the
Ribbon, click on the Indents and Spacing tab, and change the line
spacing to something other than Exactly.
