Cannot Import/View Windows XP OR Vista x86 Past Fax Files

G

Guest

I am using Vista x86 RC1 build 5600. Have used Win XP since it came out. I
make frequent use of the fax facility in both OS's. I have many historical
SEND and RECEIVE files from XP and getting a few in Vista. Due to my
monkeying with the Vista installation (hardware and software installs and
uninstalls), I have uninstalled and reinstalled Vista x86 RC1 several times.

I am noticing that I cannot import past files and have them seen in the
current install of the Vista Fax/Scan application. I copy from my historical
files from my backups into the "Fax Archives" and into the folder called
"C:\Users\Donald Mills\Documents\Fax", to no avail. They are not viewable.
They do not show in the Vista Scan/Fax application window. Only the faxes
generated (sent/received) in CURRENT INSTALL are viewable.

The odd thing here is that it does not matter whether the "old" fax files
were generated in Win Xp or Vista. The old files just are not viewable in the
"current" install of Scan/Fax. Only the faxes generated (sent/received) in
CURRENT INSTALL are viewable.

Has anyone seen this???

Yeah we have. I just couldn't find the past correspondence and was wondering
if anything has come of it. Don't mean to offend. You sound a little terse.
Has a fix been found for the commercial release of Vista? Just curious...

Also, when I first asked about this, I was trying to bring in Win XP files. I
have since noticed that the files made with the Vista Scan/Fax program also
do not come into a later installation of Vista Scan/Fax. Maybe I'm just being
slow, but I thoght this might be interesting information. Sorry to bother
you...

No bother. I was just trying to remember whether I'd already answered this
before. The answer is unchanged. It's being considered for a Power Toy or
update, but it was too late to change anything for RTM.

Thanks for the note back. I look every so often at topics. Appreciate the
fact of Vista release timing and all. I guess my only thought really was that
I hadn't realized that the problem showed no matter whether the historical
files were generated in Win XP Fax or Vista Fax. The only files that show in
Vista Fax are those SENT or RECEIVED in the current install of Vista Fax. I
had assumed that it was associated with bringing Win Xp files in. Not past
Vista installs too.

I would think that there is a way to re-assciate the past fax files to the
current Vista Fax application. I'm just wondering...

Sorry to be a little bit getting back. Thanksgiving and all. Hope yours was
good!!!

I'll show a little ignorance... what is "WET?" I simply copied (<CRTL> C)
the files from backups and pasted into the directories I mentioned. What is
"WET?" Is this something that may be an answer or work around? Explain what
it is and how to use it. I'll be happy to give it a whirl and see. Seems like
the files need to be re-associated with the fax progrm. Or something like
that. Thanks for bearing with me...

Not to nag. Just curious if there is any "tool" yet to bring past fax files
into a current install of Windows Fax/Scan.

Otherwise, except for the pesky "Windows Search Protocol Host has stopped
working" when I have Outlook 2007 open for longer than 10-15 mins, I really
am pleased with Vista (x86 Ultimate) and MS Office 2007 Pro. I worked with
the betas of both from pre RC1 days, and these programs are now solid
(kindof hinky at the though, so I am appreciative of where things are!!!).

Thanks!!!

Thanks for the note back. By the way, I'm not sure where to post or find out
anything about the continual "Windows Search Protocol Host has stopped

like to...

- Find out how to fix it.
- Figure out what settings need to set to what.
- Even just find where to post and look for help.

I appreciate any help, advice, direction, etc. Again, thanks for all...
