Cannot get messenger to close

i have everything closed, no email programs are up, but
every time i right click and chose exit it says that there
is something running that wont let it close. is this a
bug or just a problem with my pc. any help would be
appreciated.

Close down any other programs such as Windows Internet
Explorer, MSN programs, also if you got any e-mail
programs like Outlook or Express shut them down. Norton
should not affect anything about shutting messenger off.
After shutting off those programs try exiting messenger
and it should work as i experiaced this problem before
and it seems to work out for me now any problems let me

it was the norton antivirus 2003. thanks a lot for your
