Cannot get iTunes 6 to work with Windows XP

I have tried every fix on every news group I could find, and everything
on the Apple site.

I turned off virus software. I installed Windows XP Service pack 2.
Uninstalled and re-installed QTime and iTunes ten ways from Sunday.

iTunes 6 will not launch. Period. Plus it causes the shutdown process
to hang for about 10 minutes. I have now uninstalled both QTime and
iTunes. The PC (brand new HP Pavillion running XP) is now running OK.

I am fed up. End of my rope was hours ago.

Can someone please post a link to iTunes 4 for Windows (not sofotex -
it's not there), or recommend an alternative player. I need to play
MP3s and stream internet radio from the PC, because we use it for our
"on hold" music for our business. I've already spent an entire day on
this stupid problem.

I am a mac person (sacrilege, I know), and I have always loved iTunes.

The previous version Windows version of iTunes that I had worked fine.

You say you were at the Apple site but did you find the link to the
discussion groups about Itunes?

FWIW, you are not alone in having problems installing version 6. Not by a
long shot!
