I just installed a new version of Windows XP pro. I've
reinstalled windows many times and have never had this
problem before. When I go to the windows update site and
scan for updates the DRIVER Updates is always grayed out
and it never searches for them. Is there something I need
to change or delete to get the web site to look for
drivers again. Please help!!!

Forget using windows update for drivers. If you really want a new
driver (and changing drivers for the sake of change isn't really a good
idea), go to the website of the manufacturer of the hardware device.
The ones on WU are not necessarily the latest -- and may even be
obsolete compared to what's actually on your system.

If you insist on being able to use windows update for drivers, click on
the link at the WU opening screen to "Personalize Windows Update" and
you should find a setting to be able to turn the driver search back on.

Agreed. The Conextant modem driver "update" presented for my system
was almost a year older than the driver I had downloaded from the
manufacturer website, and made internet access slower.
