Several days ago, I started getting the above message
whenever trying to get into SSL secure sites. These are
sites I previously entered without difficulty. I have
windows xp, ie6. At the same time, when using external
programs such as my norton antivirus live update, the
program tells me I am not on the internet when the fact
is my dsl line is working fine and I can get around the
internet without difficulty. (except for the above
referenced SSL sites like my internet banking)

I have checked my security settings per the microsoft
home page and they all look fine.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

My security settings appear as recommended. I've had
this same IE6 on my computer since I bought it 2-3 years
ago, this problem just suddenly showed up last
weekend...very strange.

I stopped at the tomcoyote site, when I went there, it
sounded like you really needed to know what you were
doing to start removing those files.

Success!!

Loaded ad-aware, ran a 2nd time, and good as new!

Thanks so much for your support!
