Cannot find dongle through VPN

I work in a network environment. One of the programs I use
needs a dongle, which is situated on the server in order
to give multiple users the chance to use this program.
This works fine. Using a virtual private connection I can
access the network, but I can't use the program as I get a
message that 'the dongle cannot be found'. Any
suggestions? Thanks!

If your program is a database type, or has low graphics demand, you can use
Terminal Services on your Server.
The application would run locally on the Server and the remote client just
uses basic mouse and keyboard and very low bit rates 8k/s. Server does all
the work and speed across a good DSL or even a 28k dial up is acceptable.
We use a heavy engineering database app that needs a hardlock and it works
fine from a dial up and remote client.

The program itself is situated on my computer. It's just
the dongle that needs to be recognized. Is there any way?
