Cannot find a linked table

I am trying to refer to a linked table in another database, but I get the
error message:

The Microsoft Jet Database Engine cannot find the input table or query
'NameOfLinkedTable'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled
correctly.

I can refer to the linked table as long as I am in the database to which the
table was linked. Is Access2003 unable to refer to linked tables in separate
databases?

No, you have to create linked table in current database. or just refer to
that table in original database

I'm disappointed that what I wanted to do cannot be done.

Nevertheless, thank you for the response. Now I will go about pursuing this
via an alternative method.
