I want to erase the contents of a CD-RW disc but the CD tasks in windows
explorer does not have this option. How do I fix this? Thanks!

There's no option for this either. There are only two options: write files
to the CD, and erase temporary files.

You may have installed third party software and it has turned off the
internal burning system. Such a program should have Erase CD-RW
available (eg in Nero it is rather oddly on the Recorder menu)

Otherwise, right click the drives icon in explorer, take Properties and
check Enable Recording on the Recording page, and Apply. The erase
should then be available in that right click menu

Format the disk

You can't "format" a CDRW with XP's built-in tools. You can only
write to it (in multi-session style) or erase the entire CD.

To format, you MUST have third party software.

You need to use CD burning software such as Ahead Nero,
etc.

All the best.
