Cannot delete these Temp files

I have several files I cannot delete:

Temp\Perflib_Perfdata_76c
Temp\Perflib_Perfdata_208

and others with different numbers after the last " _". What are these? How
do I get rid of them?

Also, I'd like to delete any files associated to uninstalling SP1, SP2 and
other patches. Where are they and I can delete them, correct?

Change the settings of your Windows Explorer in order to see *all* file
extensions. When done, you'll notice that these file names are
\Temp\Perflib_Perfdata_76c.dat
\Temp\Perflib_Perfdata_208.dat
etc.

Since you cannot delete them, they are in use. Many applications create
these temporary files, eg. "CPUusage" or "Motherboard Monitor". You
might be better off when leaving these files alone.

They are located in compressed (blue) folders in the %windir% directory.
You can delete these folders (starting with the letter '$', however, you
should keep the "$hf_mig$" folder.

Don't worry about the SP files. None are left that are not important. But
if you want to clear out your temp folders try booting into Safe Mode then
get them. You can also try turning off Perf(ormance) Monitor if that is
running.

Have a program called "The Cleaner" installed by Moosoft by any
chance?

Those files are being used by it. This program is a good trojan
detection program but tends to be a little crappy about cleaning up
after itself when you close down. It leaves those temp files around.
However only one of them should be in use. You should be able to
delete all the others.

I like rctfreak's explanation. You should be able to see if Permormance
Monitor is running and/or stop it by Start | Run | perfmon | OK. But it
turns out this is a bug:

Actually I just leave them alone. If the op sys want's to spawn these
things so be it. Trouble is mine do not occur in the temp folders but in
the location that article said. You might want to look in your Event Viewer
and see if there are any (perflib) errors.
