Cannot Delete Some Old Mail That Just Showed Up In My Inbox

Hello, I know this issue has been covered my times before and it has happened
to me as well.

I just opened Windows Mail and there are now 11 old emails (and they were
all added to my junk mail folder when I received them) and I cannot delete
them. They show up as unread.

I can delete new mail that comes in but not these 11?? I tried to download
the KB941090 file but it says there is nothing to update. It worked for me
before installing service pack 1 for Vista.

Does anyone know of a fix for this problem?? If so, I sure would appreciate
hearing about it. As I say, mail seems to be working but these emails are
annoying.

Oh, another thing that may be related. Just before this happened, windows
mail asked if I wanted to compact my folders and I clcked okay. I have no
idea if this had anything to do with it??

Hope to hear from someone who can assist me. Thanks in advance.
Mike

Thanks Gary, call me stupid but I am not so sure what Windows Live Mail is??
Is this a web based email program?? If so (or not) how would I go about
transferring my contacts and such to it?

I did install the program but to tell you the truth, I would rather fix
Windows Mail if possible since all my saved mail and receipts and such is
there.

Thanks again for the response. If you know of another way to try and clear
these 11 messages (at least off the inbox folder list) I would appreciate it.
The new mail I get works fine. I can read it and delete just as before.

Any other help, please respond.
Mike

I included the URL link for Windows Live Mail (WLM) in my original response.
Admittedly, Microsoft's description of that program is a bit sketchy.
WLM does everything that Windows Mail does, plus it allows you to
include Hotmail accounts if you want. WLM benefitted from additional
development time, so it has more features and fewer bugs than WM.
Going forward, Microsoft will improve WLM but not WM, so you might
as well get on the bandwagon.

When installing WLM it will normally import all of your WM settings, accounts,
and emails automatically. You can keep both programs running
simultaneously if you need an extended evaluation period.

If the Microsoft fix for Windows Mail
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090
did not work for you, that same article has some additional complex steps
you can take, but they are not for the faint of heart...

Thanks again Gary. Here is the problem with the Live mail. It looks like it
transfered my account but it did not transter my other folders (receipts,
saved mail, and a bunch or others). Is there a way to get all these email
over to Live Mail?? If so can you let me know. I need all that information.

Thanks,
Mike

In Windows Live Mail, look under Storage folders (near the bottom left).
If your imported folders are not there, try a manual import: File, Import,
Messages, Windows Mail, Next...

Gary, thanks for the help. I did import the folders but instead of coming up
as banking receipts, guitar stuff, saved mail, etc..... I have folder 1,
folder 2 etc. and tneh the original folders were under there. Is there a way
to get rid of the imported folder 1 etc. and just have my saved folders? I
know I can change the name of each imported folder but then I still have to
click on it and then on another folder with the same name?? That is what I
would like to eliminate.

If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks for you help so far and I
like what I see but I would like to change the way it changes other folders.

Thanks again Gary,
Mike

I'm not sure if you can 'drag and drop' those sub-folders to a place
higher up in the Storage folders tree. Give it a try. If that doesn't work,
you'd have to go into each sub-folder, select all the messages, right-click
and use the "Move to folder" option.
