Cannot delete messages

Thank you Steve...this utility works nicely to get a phantom out of the
outbox so mail can be sent again. Might be a small help if mention is made to
go to task manager and turn off the winmail process.

Now if I can get that lingering phantom out of the inbox, I might stop
cursing windows mail....ideas appreciated. And again...thanks.

Thanks. Glad to hear its useful. I didn't feel right charging for it to
fix that problem, so you are welcome to pay to remove the nonsense messages
from your other folders.

I haven't programmed that yet, but I do need sustenance, so, although such
is not my focus (obviously), I will reserve future updates along such lines
to require financial impact.

I'm happy to help people with the issues and am very glad the program
succeeded in what I wished it would accomplish.

Hi,

The actions below worked for me.

First make a backup copy of the Windows Mail folder (in Windows Explorer).

- close Windows Mail
- delete subdirectory Backup in Windows Mail folder
- delete the file WindowsMail.MSMessageStore in the Windows Mail folder (for
me its size was 118MB)
- start Windows Mail

Now Windows Mail will repair all your mails in a repaired mail folder. This
may take a while. After this you can move the repaired folders to the Local
Folders folder again.

Have fun,

Ron

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee,
or a recent one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, although
seldom immediately, so if you have such a program, remember
where to find the fix - you are likely to need it again.
