Cannot delete certain Outlook contacts

The error message is "The messaging interface has returned an unknown
error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook."

My Outlook files started life in 1998 in Office '97. I've been in and
out of domains (I suspect that's the problem).

Otherwise, Outlook works fine. I'm using 2007, but I had the same
problem with Outlook 2003.

Thanks Russ. I've used scanpst, but it hasn't helped. Have not tried
making a new profile. Is the trick to create the new profile and then
import from the old .pst?

Never import from a PST. See if this helps:

Thanks Brian. Needs more study than I have time for right now - but
looks straight forward.
