cannot delete application

I had previously downloaded WinMx.
They've since been shutdown.
I removed what I thought was the whole application by using the REMOVE
option in the SET PROGRAM ACCESS AND DEFAULTS window.
Later on, I found some remaining WinMX components, including an application
that was identical to the one I removed as described above, residing in a
folder on my C drive.
The other components were easily deleted, but when I selected the actual
WinMX icon and then clicked DELETE, an error message flashed saying, "Access
Denied."
Subsequently,I tried to delete this remnant a number of times but with the
same result, "ACCESS DENIED."
What's happn'n here?

Thanks for your time.

It would be best to boot into Safe Mode, search for the file,
then delete it.
