Cannot defrag

Hi, I'm trying to defragment my hard drive, but can't. I get a message that
says "Vol. C is 8%, ~ needs 15%". Can anyone tell me what this means? Thanks
for any help.

The percentages refer to the number of files that are
fragmented on the hard drive. Clearly, the computer
thinks that there aren't enough fragmented files on the
hard drive to be worth defragmenting.

That makes sense, but I forgot to add that it also says after that "Delete
unneeded files on the hard disk". Why would it say that? The whole message
actually reads "Vol. C is 8%, ~ needs 15%. Delete unneeded files on the hard
disk". Thanks again for the help.

You need 15% free HD space to defrag. If possible,
uninstall some programs you don't need, and then try
defragging again.

Search for and "Delete" all of the following files on your C:
drive
*.tmp
*.dmp
*.old
~*.* (Be careful that you enter the Tilde 1st)
Navigate to C:\Windows\Temp and delete all files and sub-
folders inside it.
Likely, the space recovered won't be significant but it will
clear out working space files and lower the total file count.
