Cannot create the v-card I want

When I select "new vcard from contacts", I am not able to select the contact
I want from my contacts folder. Whenever I try to just update the card it
gives me, the changes are not saved.

Why can't I simply create a contact in my Contact folder and attach it to
emails as a vcard?
