Cannot create new pages in Front Page 2003 directly on web site

I want to add pages directly on the site and link them in navigation, but am
unable to save pages there. The program always directs me to a place in the
computer. I have tried changing addrresses multiple times with no success.
When I upload pages from the site in the computer to the web page they are
not recognizable as web pages but are in an "unknown" format.

Does the live/remote site have the FP extensions, if not, then it is not possible.

Ok, then how are you opening the live/remote site in FP?

I open the web site and use the edit in FrontPage option. After the computer
downloads I have set the "open site" option on the file menu to the web site.
That way the local site (web) and the remote site are the same. Then I can
edit current pages, however I have tied to add pages without success. They
refuse to save in the file on the web or local site, insisting instead to
find a file on the computer. I have even tried to save them to a computer
file and upload them to the web only to have the web be unable to verify they
are web page files and instead indicate they are an "unknown" file type.

Why are you changing the setting "Open Site" to be the same for both local and remote, just open the
site.

Because yesterday when I asked this group for help because FrontPage 2003
would not let me work on the web but insisted that I work in a remote
location, I was sent the following message. Doing what is suggested below
allowed me to alter pages that had already been created, but does not allow
me to create new pages. I am now downloading the entire site (a process that
will take many hours at this rate) so I can edit from a remote (on my
computer location). I would still like an answer to the problem however.

Thanks.

[in FP, File Menu | Open Site and enter the URL as
http://www.yourdomainname.com
This will open as your local.

In FP2003, "local" is whatever site/location you open first, and "remote" is
whatever site/location you will be publishing the "local" copy to.]

Do you have a version of the site on your PC (as a disc based web at say C:\...\yourwebname)
If so open it in FP using File Open Site and browsing to the folder named: yourwebname
(FP will call it local because it is the currently open site)
To publish it to your server based online site (remote) see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825528&Product=fp2003

If not, open your online site using File Open Site and entering the online URL as http://www.yoursitename.com/
(FP will call it local because it is the currently open site)
Then Publish the Online site to your remote PC based site (on your hard disc)
