cannot copy file

Con asked--
When I try to copy and paste a particular folder, I
receive the following error messages: "Error copying file
or folder" and "Cannot copy file". Other files and
folders are copied and pasted successfully

I have the same problem. Was an answer ever provided?

Check the Security settings for that file and the folder you want to copy to. See if you have permissions.

Checked all that and that isn't the problem
The file/folder I'm attempting to copy is very large but less than 1 GB. I can successfully copy random sub-files/folders. So, beats the heck out of me. At first I thought it might be a formatting issue but that isn't it either
I'm running XP on an IBM system trying to copy from C: (160 GB capacity) to an IBM portable 40 GB hard drive planned for use traveling with my notebook.
