I have built a pc for a friend, this went perfectly.!

CPU running at 30 degrees, 40Gb Hd, 256 DDR RAM, 32Mb Graphics Card,

During the set up of Xp it brings up the error

"Setup cannot copy the file: XXXXX. To retry, press Enter. If you
are installing from a CD, make sure the Windows XP CD is in the CDROM
drive. To skip this file, press ESC. To quit setup, press F3."

The file it has problems with is different every time I do the
install, I have an original XP upgrade disc and an original Win 98
disc, and these did the above. Then I went and got another original
and same again...

I've now being thru 5 different versions..performing a full fomat
everytime, and deleting the partition. I have also lowered the RAM
timings to match the motherboard (a suggestion I found on another
thread) and still no good..

I've loaded BIOS Performance settings and default and tried installing
with both, and still the same???

I've also removed the CDROM we were using and installed a friends CDRW
and still the same...I also have another crappy hard drive, so I
swapped the hard disks and still the same...

If anyone has any suggestions please post them, this is driving me
crazy.!

Also, if u need anymore info on the problem please ask.!

Cheers

Swap IDE cables out for HDD and CD, and then if that don't help try a new
PSU.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them and get back to you.!!

Heres the latest.!!

Changed the RAM and setup went fine until there was 4% left....

The pc's being left to install overnight and its got down to 4%, I'll
check it later to see of it's finished or not...

If not, I'll try installing to another Hard Drive with the new RAM..as
the Hard Drive could be faulty as well..!! No wonder I've had
problems...!

I'll keep you posted.!

Finally installed Windows.!!! New ram was required.!!

Problem sorted, many thanks for all the help.!
