I've been trying to reconnect to the Bellsouth (ATT)
newsgroup server for over a week now. After several
attempts (following both their tech help via landline and
email instructions) multiple times, no joy.
The connection just went away in mid-session in the evening
of 7/10. Suddenly I get a message that indicates that I
need "480 authentication to connect to
'newsgroups.bellsouth.net'. I have been using this computer
and connection since Nov. 2007 with minimal trouble since
the initial setup.
I have a DSL connection (Bellsouth's Fast Access at the
fastest consumer speed available from them), and an HP AMD
powered computer, Vista Premium at Home SP1, 2 gigs of
memory.
I've deleted 'newsgroups.bellsouth.net' several times and
have tried to install clean.
I run Zone Alarm Pro and have had no problems that I can
attribute to it. Obviously it hasn't interfered with the
'Microsoft Communities' which appear to be setup the same
way except, of course, the server.
