Obtained ownership of a used HP Pavilion desktop computer that runs on WinXP
Media Center.

After I changed the username from HP_Administrator to my own personalized
administrator username, I see that change at the login screen. However, in
the Documents and Settings directory there is no folder for my new username,
but instead HP_Administrator. There are a few odd problems that this
discrepancy can cause. How can I fix the OS so that only my revised username
appears in the registry, and thus everywhere?

Hello,

Changing the username will NOT change the names of the folder structure
under the Documents & Settings hierarchy. This is by design and this is how
it is supposed to work. If you are very keen on having the folders under
Documents & Settings to have the same name, you will have to start with a
new account from scratch.

As you have discovered, you cannot change a user account simply by
renaming it. Instead, make a new user account for yourself and copy
over the HP_Administrator account data and settings. You will need to
log into the new user account once before you can copy anything to it.
