Cannot Compact and repair database because file in use

I am having trouble compacting/repairing my db even though I am the only
user. Does anybody know why the system keeps telling me that my db is in use
when I am the only person using it?

Close the database and look for an *.ldb file with the same name as the
database in the same folder as the database. If no one is using the database
and the *.ldb file still exists, delete it.

Try and open it exclusively. In Access: File->Open Select your database and
instead of clicking open click the small drop down arrow next to the word
open, choose Open-Exclusive
