Cannot burn to external Firewire DVD drive

Hello all!

I have a Pioneer DVD A03 drive in an external Firewire
enclosure connected via a Firewire (IEEE 1394) card in my
Sony VAIO (PCV-L400) OLD 400Mhz Pentium 2 computer. I'm
running Windows XP Sp1 Home Edition, but somehow the
Operating System sees the DVD drive as a cd drive and
does not allow me to burn DVD's.

Are external Firewire drives not supported under XP? Do I
need to download some drivers or something? What can I
do? Do I have to wait for the new Windows Update? When
will the new update actually show up??

Thanks,

What burning software are you using?
The native one on XP does not support DVD burning

My external shows up and can burn only if I'm burning CD-R's and have
enable recording set in the drives properties.Only 1 drive can be set at any
time. Unless you are unsing a third party's burning software.

Hmm,

Interesting, I haven't changed the drive properties yet,
but I also tried using Nero and it doesn't even see the
DVD-Rom drive while Windows does - in my computer -
Windows thinks it's a cd-rom. Are you saying I should
disable cd burning on my internal cd rom drive and enable
burning on my external dvd-rom drive and then try Nero, I
suspect Nero will still not see the drive at all.
