Hi Guys,

My computer died on me suddenly and i have tried almost everyhting
i know. Right now i cannot boot from a boot floppy and i cannot even
enter the bios. HP told me to remove the CMOS battery for some time
and plug it back. I did still no luck. I have tried it disconnecting
all the peripherals still no luck. It looks like my motherboard is
fried but i am not sure. Any Ideas?

I have a HP Pavilion xt 915, intel celeron, 1.1 ghz, windows xp.

Thanks,

Prabhu Dev

HP Pavilions are junk. I will not touch them with a 10 foot pole. Just
throw the computer in the garbage and build one yourself or get a
DELL.

How did it die?

How long had it been working as presently configured?

Had anything been changed recently or had it been moved?

Inspect all cards, cables, etc.
Does it smell odd?

Strip system down to minimals, unplug power/data cables and
cards for all but: CPU, heatsink/fan, 1 memory module,
video. This includes unplugging all drives, the goal is to
merely get the system to POST, not boot to the operating
system. Try powering on again. If you have a multimeter,
take voltage readings.

Examine the motherboard for failed capacitors. Vented top,
swelling, residue around the base or top are all indicators
of a certain type of failure. Check whether all fans turn,
including the one in the power supply.

It might help if you had a 2nd cache of spare parts or a
working (compatible) system to swap parts around, isolating
a few of the things left in the aforementioned minimal
configuration.

What exactly happens when you turn on the machine? Any sound?...or
any visuals at all?

Have a nice one...

Yep. HP systems are total junk.

I keep the system in suspend mode all the time. i boot it once in a
while. One fine day it just gave in just like that.

Smell: Can't say anything about it.

I took it to bare minimum but still not luck. I just see a blue screen
with HP Invent logo on it. Absolutely no sound. That is all.

Thanks a lot guys.
