Cannot Access the ICF

I'm running a fresh install of Windows XP Home (with all
available SPs and updates) following a hard drive
failure. My son's computer (a Win2K box) and mine are
networked to a Netgear WGT624 firewall router. The
network (including file and printer sharing, and cable
internet access) works fine. I do not, however, have an
Advanced tab on my Local Area Connection property sheet.
Not that I want to activate the ICF, but I can't find
anything anywhere documenting this behavior. I'm logged
on as the administrator and, as I said, everything works
fine. Does anyone know why the Advanced tab is missing?
Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.

The Advanced tab won't appear if the connection is part of a network
bridge. If a computer has more than one network adapter, XP's Network
Setup Wizard automatically creates a network bridge unless you tell it
not to.

You can right-click and delete the network bridge.

Steve,

My PC has a single Ethernet 10/100 NIC running through a
Netgear router. Will deleting the Network Bridge remove
any of my current network functionality? Will anything
happen when I delete it? Many thanks.

Steve, as a follow-up to my last response, I do have 2
network adapters: a Local Area Connection and a 1394
Network Adapter. What is a 1394 Network Adapter? I'll do
some research. Thanks.

1394 is Firewire. I am currently not using my Firewire
port. I am connected to the network via my Ethernet NIC.
I looks like I can delete the Network Bridge without
affecting anything. Do you agree?

Yes. Remove the bridge. The Ethernet NIC will work fine, and you'll
have access to its Advanced tab.

If you don't use a FireWire network, right click and disable the 1394
connection after deleting the network bridge.
