Have a Hewlett Packard with Windows Home Edition. It crashed I loaded windows
XP Pro which I had. Had access to Comcast High Speed Internet. Now, can't
access the internet.

Went to comcast, followed all the steps they told me to. Stll did not work.
It is recognizing the highspeed internet card in the machine. Just won't
allow access to the internet. Keeps saying not plugged in to internet.

Please help.

thanks in advance.

I have Comcast and had a similar problem. After reinstalling win xp home on
my Dell Dimension I had no connection to Comcast. After some checking I
found that I had not installed the network card to which the cable connects.
Unless you are using USB to connect, this could be the problem. Go to the
Device Manager and see if there is Network Adapters in your list. If not,
install the drivers for it.

Not sure if this helps, but this is the experience I had.

Good luck.

I just noticed you said the computer is recognizing your NIC
card...oops...maybe you could try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Also,
windows update will sometimes tell you if your driver needs to be updated.

Tried that. Uninstalled it twice and re-installed. Still not working.
window's update only works IF you have internet access, I think.

but, thanks for your help.
