cannot access information on zip disk

I am trying to open an Excel spreadsheet on a 100MB zip disk. I last used
this spreadsheet yesterday without incident. Today, a message pops up that
my disk is not formatted or may be formatted for a MacIntosh. Can anyone
help me as this has happened on several zip disks in the past few weeks. I
use them one day without a problem and the next day, I cannot access
anything. I thought it might be the zip drive so I purchased a new zip drive
but the same thing happens. I have scanned my computer and components for
viruses but it shows nothing.

First, better late than never, always keep backups of any important
data.

As for the specific problem I suspect your zip drive may be dirty or out
of adjustment or the disks you are using are getting old and un-reliable.
