Cannot Accept Changes

I want to permanently remove the revisions I made when updating a document
that will be posted on a website, but I cannot accept changes. I can show the
revisions and move to the next one, but the accept changes/reject changes
buttons are not lit up for selection (they are grey). I am not the original
author of this document, but that user is not longer around. Is there a way
for me to clean up this document?

Which version of Word is involved, here?

Have you tried:
- make sure change tracking is OFF
- copy/paste to a new document
