Cancelling the XP Pro install

For a few days, my computer has been randomly freezing. So, because nothing
else worked, I tried to reinstall Windows. For some stupid reason, I used
the upgrade install instead of the new install. But I decide to let it run
anyway. At 39 minutes left in the install, I'm told that the VIA USB 2.0
Controller isn't Logo'd. I tell it to go ahead and install anyway (later on,
I tell it not to, and I get the same results). At 20 minutes left, I get an
alert saying:

(blue bar on top): "unregmp2.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procdure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link
library MSDART.dll."

I hit OK as much as I can, but the window still keeps coming up (20 minutes
to go). I tried to restart the computer, but it picked up at 39 minutes to
go. So now I'm stuck in a loop. XP demands that the install continue (I've
tried safe mode), and I can't get my XP CD to boot up. Is there any way I
can get the installation to cancel so that I can just do a clean install?

Step1: With the error on the screen, Press "Shift + F10" to open the Command
Prompt.

Step2: In the command prompt window type "taskmgr.exe" (without the quotes) and hit enter to bring up the Task Manager.

Step3: When the Task Manager comes up terminate the error message by selecting the error message from under the Applications tab and clicking on End Task and then End.

Note: If this does not end the task in the Applications tab, you will then have to go to the Processes tab and end the UnRegmp2.exe process which identifies the error message and click End
Process to terminate the process.

Step4: You may have to click End Process repeatedly until the error message is gone.

Step5: Once you confirm that the task is no longer listed, type "exit" in the Command Prompt and press Enter.

Setp6: Continue with the install.

The installation will proceed without any problems. Do this whenever the error message comes up during the Installation phase and the installation will proceed without any problems.

Note: When you open Windows Media Player after getting back to Windows you will get the same error message that you got during the Repair install. So inorder to resolve this issue please
download and install the latest version of MDAC, which is MDAC 2.8.

I would also suggest you disable all references to USB support in the BIOS of your PC before the install. Once XP is loaded and you have at least Service Pack 1 on it you can reboot and
RE-enable the USB in the BIOS.
