Cancel diskcheck

Is it possible to cancel a boot-time disk check?

This is what I've tried:
- Ctrl-C or Ctrl-break didn't work
- Booting in safe mode hangs on "crcdisk.sys" (perhaps doing a disk
check without displaying it on the screen)
- Booting in "last known good config" starts the check too

Hi,
I'm not that familiar with it but after your machine is booting up and you
see the disk check process beginning, you will also see that you have a
number of seconds in which to cancel the check. If you miss stopping it at
that time, I don't know if you can stop it. Good luck,

Thanks for the suggestion, but the Vista disk check does not have a
grace period for cancelling. The scan was scheduled using explorer ->
properties of a drive -> tools -> check now.

Hi, Andomar.

Why not let the disk check run to completion? Who knows what problems might
get fixed? Even some that you don't know about or even suspect.

It might take a while, but it should be a good investment of time.

Thanks for your reply. The scan took around 3 hours. I was at the
parent's house to solve a problem with the computer, and was hoping to
make better use of my time than looking at chkntfs for 3 hours. Now I
have to go back again to continue with the real problem (which was not
caused by the disk, which checked out fine.)

Started down a blind alley and don't know if it's going to last 3 more
seconds or 3 hours or 3 days!

Well, at least now you've eliminated the disk as the likely problem.

If we can help, please post back - probably in a new thread with a new
subject.
