I just turned off my DSL and purchased a Sprint wireless card using EV-DO.
Using the existing wirless router I used for all my computers at home, is
there a way to have my other computers access the internet through the
computer that has the EV-DO card in it?
Yes, provided that the computer with the EV-DO card has a wired
Ethernet adapter:
1. Configure the wireless router as a wireless access point only,
bypassing its routing capabilities. Some wireless routers, such as my
Belkin F5D7230, have an "access point only" setting built in. If
yours doesn't, disable the wireless router's built-in DHCP server and
set its LAN IP address to 192.168.0.254.
2. Configure the computer with the EV-DO card as an Internet
Connection Sharing host.
a. Connect its Ethernet adapter to a LAN port on the router.
Don't connect anything to the router's WAN (Internet) port.
b. Enable Internet Connection Sharing on the EV-DO connection. If
it asks what to use for the home network connection, tell it
to use the wired Ethernet connection.
I just tested this setup successfully using my Sprint PCS card.
