Can you move hard drive to another system?

If this is a "C:" boot drive, only if the second platform is "extremely" close in hardware
or is the same model platform.

If this is a "D:" data drive, yes.

Normally, unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the
old one (same chipset, IDE controllers, etc), you'll most likely need
to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the
very least (and don't forget to reinstall any service packs and
subsequent hot fixes):

I tried to boot the hardrive on other system and it really Hangs up in Booting, Do you have to clear any system Resource settings before you install? any insight would be Huge! thank you. Ron-P
 
Yes David it's the C-drive. and the system are same manufacture"Compaq" they are not the same in models. I expected some of the devices to have a few issues but not total lock up, i was hoping to slide by like you could with 95/98
