This is a 4 MP camera and I asume you are taking your photos at the maximum
quality.
Open a photo folder, place your mouse pointer over a photo. A textbox will
open to give you the dimensions in pixels. Divide the larger number (width
of the photo in pixels) by the smaller number (height of the photo in
pixels). The answer will be 1.33. This is the aspect ratio that your camera
is shooting at.
Now, right click on your desktop and click on Properties and on the Setting
tab. Look at the screen resolution.
You may see something like 1280 by 1024.
1280/1024 = 1.25
If you have a wide screen you may see something like 1440 by 900.
1440/900 = 1.6
There is no way to fit 1.33 into 1.25 or 1.6.
So the software fits the picture on the screen as best it can and the
further away your monitor is from 1.33 the more black space.
Or, you may have decided to use the e-mail size on your camera and you get
something like 640 x 480 for the picture pixels dimensions. Here you do not
have enough pixels to fill your screen and the picture is placed in the
center of black space.
