G Guest Sep 18, 2004 #1 can you get excel to show you how a formular was put together step by step in english?
N Norman Jones Sep 19, 2004 #2 Hi Seniw, If you are seeking a verbalised explanation of custom formulae, I do not believe that this is possible. For standard worksheet functions, Excel's help is generally provides an adequate description of required and available arguments. If, you require assistance with a specific formula, post the requisite details and a helpful someone will respond.

D Dave Peterson Sep 19, 2004 #3 If you're using xl2002+, you can select the cell and then: Tools|formula auditing|evaluate formula And you can step through how excel evaluates each piece of the formula. If you don't have xl2002+, you can select a portion of the formula (in the formula bar) and hit F9 to see how it's calculated. Hit ctrl-z to revert that portion back to the formula or hit escape to abort the editting completely. And if you hit enter by mistake, edit|undo right away (or ctrl-z).
