Can you compare two word documents without scrolling by line?

I need to find out what changes were made to a document. I have the new
document and the previous version. Is there a way that I can have word
compare the two without scrolling through 40 pages line by line?

Tools | Compare and Merge Documents. This will mark up one of the documents
similarly to using Track Changes. It usually takes a little trial and error
(for me, at least) to figure out which document to open first and which
second.
