Can you add an AD domain above the existing top level ?

Best way to describe this is to tell you what I've got and what I want, here
goes......

Forest was setup before I came to the company...

We have at present AD domain, flix.uk.jotun.com, there is no AD domain
jotun.com.
flix.uk.jotun.com is the top level (PDC).

Can I build a Server jotun.com and put it above flix.uk.jotun.com ?

No because the top namespace dose not allow you to do so. Well you can
create a new forest root domain named jotun.com if you like.
