Can windows explorer search of compressed files be disabled

E

E N Coleman

With large zip files in a directory it takes a long time
for windows explorer to display the contents of the
directory. Is there a way to stop windows explorer from
building a directory tree for the contents of compressed
that is zipped files other than by changing the file
extension?

Click Start, Run and enter REGSVR32 /U ZIPFLDR.DLL

This disables XP built in ZIP file handling. To re-enable it, enter
REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR.DLL
