Can Windows Explorer be repaired or re-installed without full re-install?

Hi

My Windows Explorer is sick and does not always display all drives and
sometimes freezes when a drive icon is clicked.

I have heard that it can be repaired within the software but I can't
remember the details.

XP Pro+SP2 with all updates and security fixes installed.

Help would be much appreciated.

TIA

The file for Windows Explorer is explorer.exe, so if you have another PC
running XP, copying the file from it and into the Windows folder might fix
the problem. Or perhaps you can locate the file on the Windows CD.

Or perhaps you can use the System File Checker (SFC) -

Thank you Eric

I should has said that I have run sfc /scannow twice and it made no
difference.

If I can get a copy of explorer.exe I'll try that.

Back up your data first because Stuff Happens. Then try a Repair
Install, which should leave your programs and data intact.

This may or may not solve the issue. If the problems are caused by
non-system file corruption, viruses/malware, or hardware then of course
the Repair Install will not help.
