Can the ribbon be minimized(or disabled) on startup

Is it possible to disable the ribbon when access starts. I know that ctrl and
F1 minimizes the ribbon, but my database uses its own menus and popups and
there are to many "dangerous" items in the ribbon that can alter the
functionality of my database.
 
Are you referring to Access 2007?

I know that the Excel 2007 blog had a blog post a month or so ago about how
developers who have customized menus in Excel can get around the ribbon thing.

You may want to look on their blog for clues; I imagine the procedure is
similar in Access.
