Can someone please explain RAID? Thanks

I'm having problems between my motherboard and HDD and I think it may have
something to do with RAID but I am unsure what RAID is.

Any advice is much appreciated.

As a practical matter, if you only have one hard drive you don't
have RAID. Also, any RAID controllers on a mobo are normally
in addition to the usual IDE ones.
