Have been using Windows Mail for several weeks, then yesterday, this started
all of a sudden.

Do you get an error message when you try to send or receive? If so,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

I know what you mean. This started happening to me yesterday. I see the
mail coming in and it just disappears. palmerhurst

Open the Inbox folder, then look near the upper right corner.
Does it say "Hide Read Messages" or "Show All Messages"?
You want the latter setting for what is known as the 'Current View'.
Each folder saves its current view setting, so check that setting in
every folder.
If you don't see that current view bar near the upper right corner,
you can also change the settings under View, Current View.

"Show all messages" is/was already selected. I do not get an error message.
My provider tech support took over my pc remotely and was unable to find the
problem. His suggestion was that I reload Windows Mail. I really don't want
to do that nor do I know how.

tried your suggestion, i.e. delete account, restart Mail, then recreated.
Same problem except for one thing that I noticed when I sent myself an email
from another computer, the message appears as if it's in the inbox, then it
disappears. Just like the other poster on this blog indicated was happening
to them.

Please help. I cannot send or receive also. Here is the error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for

inactivity. Subject 'Test email', Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server:

I'm not getting an error message. Help.

Did you check your Junk E-mail folder? Also check the Inbox and Spam folders
in webmail. If the messages aren't in your webmail Inbox, Windows Mail can't
download them.

"lclanier", you should start a new thread instead of barging in on on
someone else's.
"Unexpectedly terminated" is usually caused by interference from an
antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

Okay, tried your suggestion to download Live mail or whatever you call it.
Went through all the log on procedures, etc. and when I try to check emails,
I am referred back to Windows Mail. Don't know what the heck is happening,
but somehow, there must be a problem with Windows Mail since I am not the
only one having this problem. Please assist asap.

"bump", help. Gary, do you work for Microsoft? If so, I'm very disappointed
in the tech support from Microsoft. Where else can I go?

No, he does not, nor 99.9% of the posters here. We're just users like
yourself.

Your post didn't make much sense, so you better reply with more details on
what your problem is.

This forum is staffed by volunteers who are not paid.
Microsoft does not monitor this forum (newsgroup, actually).

I don't know what you mean by "I am referred back to Windows Mail."
Please use the actual words from error messages.

Gary, sorry for the verbal abuse. I was under the mistaken impression that
this was a Microsoft sponsored website. I commend you for your willingness
to assist others.

Now, maybe I should recap: Been using Windows Mail for about two months
with no problems. About two days ago, I suddenly lost the ability to receive
(but could still send) emails in "Mail", but I can still send and receive
them in by Bellsouth.net webmail. Tried to get my ISP to assist, but they
were unable to figure it out, stating that "you might want to reload the Mail
program". Tried your suggestion about loading Live Mail, but when I click on
the "email" icon, my Windows Mail inbox comes up and I'm back to the same
problem. Up until my latest session with Bellsouth yesterday, I could still
send, but not receive email. I was getting no error message before, it was
just that nothing happened as if I had no incoming mail even though I could
see them in webmail. Anyway, now I get the following error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.att.yahoo.com',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

Any help you can give will be appreciated. By the way, does Microsoft have
any tech support available for an issue like this?

Go to the advanced tab of the account and enable SSL for the incoming
server.

As Steve already advised you, that server needs the SSL option enabled.
( Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced)

If you want the Windows Live Mail program to start up when you click on
the Mail icon, do this:
Open the Default Programs applet, then click on "Set program
access and computer defaults." Expand the Custom selection, and
select Windows Live Mail. Click OK.
