Comcast has started making its users switch port numbers for the outgoing
mail server, but has been rather poor at telling its users about this in
advance.

I have the same problem and troubleshooting with Charter cable shows it to be
in Vista's Windows Mail. Help!!

I would not take Charter's advice as the gospel truth.
Please post your complete error message, like "swaves" did,
which will enable us to figure out the likely cause for the problem.
