-Can receive mail on all accounts, but can't send on any of them
-Outlook 2003
-Task '(e-mail address removed) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The
connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact
your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
-POP3 accounts, that requires SMTP authentication for the outgoing (it's
checked), the settings for this are the same is the incoming server...in fact
I downloaded registry values from my ISP to automatically install the email
account settings to OE, then transferred them to Outlook.
-I do not need SPA

Any guidance or advice is much appreciated. Thanks, laters....

I believe my system is totally updated, I just bought this puter and did
windows update fully right out of the box. I'll double check to make sure.
Here's that log, thanks for your time...

You are getting an error of 0x800ccc0f. These means the connection is
getting dropped.

Are you broadband or dialup?

Note: The December 6th update to Norton/Symantec products might also cause
this. See:

I'm broadband, Linksys cable router. Just installed Symantec's update/fix,
still the same. I had not updated Office with SP1 (thought it would be
included in additional updates at the Windows update site), but have now and
it still won't send anything.
Thanks so much for your time on this. Any other ideas?

neo [mvp outlook]

Is it a PPOE account? (The ISP makes you logon first with a special client
before you can access content on the broadband connection.)

I would select Tools | Options | Mail Setup tab and ensure that the "Always
use an existing dial-up session" is selected.

No logon required for my internet, it's always on. I changed the Mail Setup
as advised and still have the problem. :(

neo [mvp outlook]

Is your linksys a multiport router? (might try plugging the network cord
into a different port)

G

Tried a different port, still doesn't work. Don't give up on me
now...please. By the way, I have Norton Firewall too, but have permitted
communication on all ports for Outlook. Would that have anything to do with
it?

Do you have Norton anti-virus set to scan your incoming messages? There
have been a lot of problems with this lately - try uninstalling Norton,
then reinstalling *without* enabling mail scanning.

J

Jeff Stephenson [MSFT]

As I mentioned in a reply to an earlier post (don't know why this wasn't
threaded properly in my newsreader...), try uninstalling Norton, then
reinstalling without enabling mail scanning. Norton seems to be causing
this problem for a lot of people.

Jeff:

There are a number of people having this same problem in the last week.
I removed Norton etc to check and still had the same problem. Norton
Internet Security had been running for 6 -8 months with no such problems
so I really don't think that is the current issue.

It's also consistent across several ISP that we connect to ( Comcast and
Qwest).

It does seem to be related to the size of the email itself. Smaller size
emails ( less than 10K) seem to go but larger ones are definitely an
issue.

I also tried both OE and Outlook with no joy.

So any clues are highly appreciated to the beleagured systems admins:)

Norton is not the problem with me. I uninstalled all Norton products from my
computer, turned off all firewalls (windows and router), still same problem.

Jeff Stephenson said:
The fact that Norton hadn't caused problems up to now doesn't mean it
wasn't the problem. According to a number of recent posts, their
LiveUpdate facility has recently pushed a bad update to those who have it
enabled. See
http://service1.symantec.com/support/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2002071214223706

The timing and symptoms seem too perfect to just be coincidence (though I
admit they might be...)

hmm...

out of curiosity, are you running windows xp sp2? (or did you recently
apply it and then this started?)
